What’s here. What to know.
October 21, 2026 · 0.2.0-beta.2 · Free device-storage beta
Beta testing guide · Included now and planned later
In this release
- Public beta launch with desktop Chrome recovery checks, explicit remaining browser/accessibility testing gaps, and the official Instagram account @talespyre.
- More reliable paragraph direction, line spacing, visible citations, scoped bibliographies and print/export formatting.
- Complete project and workspace backups with attachments, captions, saved revisions, and integrity checks.
- Recovery preview and separate-project restoration without replacing existing work. Older TaleSpyre and Folio text backups remain readable.
- A welcome guide, backup center, support report builder, privacy notice, and beta terms.
- Research questions, sources, planning boards, story bible, timelines, continuity review, and revision tracking alongside the manuscript editor.
- Expandable editing tools and collapsible side panels for smaller screens.
Current limits
- Custom calendars and advanced continuity checks are experimental. Timeline plotting, age, travel, knowledge and effective fact ranges are not consistently custom-calendar-aware.
- No cloud sync or account-based manuscript recovery. Another device needs a backup file.
- Automatic local saves and two recent recovery copies need no file setup. A separate automatically updated file is optional and requires browser support and permission. Safety downloads remain recommended on every device.
- JSON backups have a 256 MB limit. Individual attachments have a 4 MB limit. TXT, Markdown, and DOCX imports have a 5 MB limit.
- Legacy text-only backups cannot restore attachments or saved revisions that were never included.
- Backups are not encrypted. Keep dated copies in addition to the automatic snapshot.
- PDF export uses the browser’s print dialog. Import conversion, pagination, citations, and continuity warnings should be reviewed by the writer.
- Google login, subscription checkout, and device-to-device sync are not enabled in this beta.
